Xbox Will Never Be #1 In Europe - Analyst Claim | |

Microsoft's Xbox will never lead the European console market according to analysts, despite a boost in sales since £100 was cut from the price of the unit. Xbox sales figures have dominated the European market since its launch, accounting for 49 per cent of all console sales in the UK, 46 per cent in France and 55 per cent in Germany, according to Microsoft figures. However, Paul O'Donovan, consumer electronics analyst at Gartner, and Adrian Drozd, gaming analyst at Datamonitor, said these figures will not win Microsoft market dominance. O'Donovan said: "Xbox is capturing a second phase of fans - those who couldn't afford the console previously. I expect this buying trend to trail off soon." | ||

#8, it's not exactly a comeback, as it was the first bit of communication between us...
I hate to tell you this, but Playstation 2 is NOT a better console, and in fact, lags far behind the X-Box. Don't know about you, but most of my friends own at least 2 consoles (both teens and adults). |

#12 - I really wish they would.
#8 - I do prefer the Sony enclosure. Looks much sleaker. The cord management isn't as nice as the XBox, and the hardware isn't nearly as powerful. I guess it depends on what you mean by better. Also the game availability for the PS2 at this time last year was pretty pathetic. I was sending links to cool upcoming games to my friends who had the PS2 because they were feeling somewhat disappointed... at the time. By fall of 2001 that situation had changed, so I expect the same for XBox. |

| #7 - thats true in the US - but in Europe Gamecube has outsold the Xbox in just 7 days compared to the 2+ months it has been released here. |

#15, It doesn't work that way. When you buy a console, the maker is actually losing money. I don't know how much, but I have heard anywhere from a couple dollars US to 150$US. They then have to sell games and the console makers collect a royalty for each game sold, which is what makes them money. Game sales are really what is important. Theoretically, if Microsoft only sold half of the number of consoles another company did, but sold five times more games (not really realistic, but just as an example) they would be making a ton of money, way more than the other company. ewww... the PS2 does not look "sleek" in my opinion. To me, it looks more like a piece of garbage made by IBM back from the '80's. But then again, that's just my opinion. |

As soon as the XBox network stuff gets going, Xbox will be unstoppable.
One might say the same for Sony, but PS2 didn't have networking built in, and that's a death nell for nearly all add on components. If developers can't rely on them being installed on the majority of units, they won't write games for them. This isn't a problem for the Xbox. :-) |

| #18 - I'll disagree again hehe, I can't see broadband helping the Xbox at all, if it was ready at launch it may have done - but most people won't be buying a console for that. |

Byron, so you are saying that the ability to game with people on the internet is not a selling point over the other consoles?
Just the fact that you can connect to the internet and play against new people every time you play Halo is great, in my opinion. |

| For most people it won't be - I guess this may differ in various regions - Europe it will flop as we here are still not quite up on the broadband wagon. I know people who have bought the Xbox with no intention to play it online. |
