Despite enjoying huge success with Windows 7 and the Xbox 360, there are several other products that Microsoft would probably rather forget about... 10. PlaysForSure Launched in 2004, at the height of the music industry's fears about piracy and illegal filesharing, the PlaysForSure format was Microsoft's attempt at a useful digital rights-management offering. Microsoft certified dozens of portable media players, network-attached receivers and mobile phones to support PlaysForSure music, and added the encryption to songs purchased from the MSN Music Store. | ||

Another stupid article, bases its top 10 on how the products are perceived rather than actual quantifyable success (or the lack of it).
For instance, Windows ME is 5th and they say "it hit shops about eight months after Windows 2000 (the operating system that millions of Windows 98 users rushed to upgrade to)" while completely forgetting that Windows 2000 (Professional) was not aimed at consumers but at businesses, especially as the system requirements dwarfed the average PC at home, so consumers at home didn't rush to it. So stupid inaccurate statement there. They have Zune at 8 while admitting that more recent versions have won plaudits, so it hardly belongs on this list, does it? And finally Vista... you know the same Vista that sold more than XP and made Microsoft more money in the same time period. Stupid, stupid article. |
