Microsoft Witness: Consumers Will Suffer If States Win | |

If the nine non-settling states' proposed sanctions were enacted, consumers would bear the brunt of imperfect software, higher prices and less innovation, an economist testifying on behalf of Microsoft told a federal judge Wednesday. "Provisions in the non-settling states' proposal will cause prices to rise, output to fall, innovation to slow, quality to erode, and costs to rise -- and would reduce competition," said University of Virginia economics professor Kenneth Elzinga. Elzinga told U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly that the states' proposed remedies expand the scope of the antitrust trial beyond the anticompetitive issues identified in court, and would be more likely to do harm than to promote competition. | ||

#1, we are indeed paying for it in some ways, for instance, wireless is STILL utter crap in the US. Odd thing is, the US is the most technologically advanced nation, yet we fall far behind in wireless technology.
However, lots of good has come from it, more competition has brought about lower long distance prices, higher quality service, etc... Only problem is, all the telco companies are merging together again. |

The US has VERY VERY good wired service
Depends on what is most important to you. Wired service is more important than wireless for driving business services. i.e. data, call centers, long distance, etc. |

| #15, it harms the consumers because we are taxpayers. We pay for all this legal shit that the states and federal gov't are doing. In the end we will pay MS for it as well as when this is over they will try and reclaim some of there losses. Also, being innovative and providing me with the most bang for my buck is what MS does, this helps us consumers, since we do not need to spend money unless we want to. MS gives us the basics, if you want more go and pay for more, wheather it is from MS or not. Stripping Windows down, will give us less features and less bang for the buck. Consumers are not used to this and will in turn be hurt since they are getting less than they would of before, but for the same amount of money. I don't know about you but I like to get the most for my money, not less than before. |
