| Won't install on a server unless there is a hack for it. It also won't install on XP x64. It is meant for consumer use not really for businesses. |

| That is strange. The version I installed this weekend is the new one. The version on this PC is 1611. And it will not update to the newer version, definitions are the same though. Very strange that you cannot update to the latest version of the client versions. |

#5/All, hit the ligitimate download at the MSE site, select RUN vice saving the exe to a location on your computer/network. When prompted, select upgrade/update and then restart the computer when prompted.
Remember, select "RUN" vice saving the exe and it will update the version you have installed. |

| It should at least be able to run on Windows Home Server. There's a real problem with AV software on that platform. You either have to pay through the nose, or use something free that "kinda" works. I paid for a year of Avast (or AVG, I forget which - the one that has a WHS dedicated version) but i really thought it sucked so I did not renew. |

It told me it was already installed and that I had to remove first. No upgrade option presented.

If you download the file from http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx and open it, it still has September 2009 file dating.
Likewise, the files at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=e1605e70-9649-4a87-8532-33d813687a7f also have the same dating. *IF* there is an updated version, it should be downloadable via the programs updater of maybe Microsoft Update. The files [well I tested 1] are dated at the beginning and end of January 2010. Whether or not this is a real release, a beta or whatever. |

If you go to, http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx and select "RUN" as I have stated, it will update 32 and x64 bit versions on applicable Vista and Windows 7 computers - offering to upgrade the installation to .1959
32 bit systems will require a restart. I have no idea about Windows XP variants. |
