| Fritz - I could be being overly hopeful but I think what they were showing was the ability for any company to distribute iptv to wmc. Even better let channels start pushing out content direct to consumers w/o going through traditional cable companies. |

People are missing the point about this one and how different media distribution is now.
Mediaroom 2.0 is a combination of services, which combine access to media and VOD like Playon.tv does now - only with a real interface, with place shifting features as from Sling Media. It can replace cable and sat and allow content owners, as MrHumpty suggests, to go directly to consumers - and they will. What will come out of the other end of this is people watching what they want to, when they feel like it and on the devices they want to use at the time. It's fascinating that guys like Paul Thurrott poo poo all over this stuff - but at the same time praise any other "cloud" based initiative that Google has. MS has moved the DVR and VOD into the cloud and made the features available on all three screens from that cloud, from within an interface even detractors agree, is simply great. |

#3: Iketchum, MS has tons of great ideas, the problem is executing them. Microsoft showed up IPTV concepts at least ten years ago but now, in the year 2010, in my house in Rome. Italy I watch IPTV offered by my telephone company for 25 Euro/month, tax included; this rate INCLUDES: 20 Mb, unlimited, and for real, DSL connection, a phone line with a separate phone number and VOIP.
Here in the US I pay to AT&T more than $40 for a single, residential, phone line..... While I hope that, as you say, things will change for better I cannot ignore that the first time I signed for DSL with BellSouth I had a "real" unlimited connection, now there cap and other limitations hidden in contracts people have to sign.
