Microsoft starts antipiracy initiatives in 70 countries | |

Microsoft has simultaneously launched education initiatives in more than 70 countries to help protect consumers and increase awareness of the risks of counterfeit software. Named Microsoft Consumer Action Day, the push includes an intellectual property rights education program in schools across China, an originals club for software resellers in Germany, a risk-of-counterfeit training course for the consumer protection authority in Mexico, a children's online safety program in Greece, and a study of piracy's impact on small and midsize businesses in Argentina. New "Genuine Product" software/drivers to make sure your installed MS "Genuine Advantage" software/drivers are genuine? |

Yea TL cause that's relevant to what they're doing.
They mostly use these initiatives to catch OEM's (mostly local) who are pushing out invalid MS product w/o telling the consumer. Had a huge case of that around here with a white box shop who, in the end, got shut down by MS. In that case MS provided legitimate licenses to all those duped into paying full prices for invalid software. They also use these initiatives to get disgruntled employees to tell on businesses who don't license correctly (seen a couple of those go down too). Regardless, I have no problem with MS trying to get paid for their IP. Since I produce, license, and sell my own I don't see why I should expect them not to expect compensation just as I do. |
