Microsoft hasn't talked much about the Windows 7 campaign, though it did say it would be huge. We thought the ad campaign would be kicking off on October 22, 2009, the day the operating system hits general availability. It looks as though Microsoft is starting early.

Ah yes, the "Windows is so easy, even a 5-yr-old child prodigy can use it" commercial. The girl is very cute, although she is hardly representative of what the average 5-yr-old is capable of.

#1 Another example of why Linux is still laughed at by the average user.

#2: I must be too dumb to understand your pithy quip. What does any of this have to do with Linux again? Do you have a 5-yr-old, or know of any at all? I do. I live with one. She can't read. None of the 5-yr-olds in her kindergarten class can read. It's hard to use productivity apps on a PC when you can't read. However, she does like playing Tacky Toads at YTV.com.
btw, the average user hasn't much of a clue about Linux so I doubt they are laughing at anything, despite your wishes to the contrary.
I understand that you're an MS fanboy so you're compelled to reply in the negative to anything I post, but could you try to add a little sense and intelligence to your posts? Please?

#3 Sorry to hear that. My 5 year old son knew how to logon with a password when he was 3, his name. He's in Kindergarten and reading, according to the school, at a 2nd grade level. He has all but conquered Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, he prefers PC gaming to the Wii, and thanks to MS Family Safety I do not have to worry about him surfing the net by himself. I do look at his surfing habbits thanks to the in depth reporting MS Family provides. Very customizable as well.

#4: My daughter can spell her own name, too, but everything else she's still learning. Your son appears to have a lot of potential and it's great that you're encouraging him. My son is almost 8 and is by far the best reader in his class, but his math skills are poor. It just goes to show that everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. My son would much rather play the PS2 or N64 (don't ask, I'm not very current with my console gaming) than on the PC. My daughter is the other way around.

I find the commercial to be strange. The "OS is great again" strikes me as the wrong thing to say, along the lines of "the wow is now". It means nothing and is not persuasive. The kid is cute, though.

#3 It's more to the point that the entire OOS/Linux "movement" has been plagued by assuming people are dumb. Plain and simple from start to present. My 1 yr old Nephew can already process pressing buttons to get something to happen on my screen. My 4 yr old Niece already flies around my brothers iPhone and computer.
And frankly if you think I'm talking to the average user pointing out the idiocy of your comments on a regular basis I'm not. I'm talking to those of us on this forum who have watched the "Linux blast off" for well over a decade. Until those who drive Linux find a way to realize that it isn't stupidity that keeps people of their software Linux will be doomed to be the "little engine that could" for the next decade to come.
Oh and I'm not MS Fan boy. I recognize the best products and services around and use them. Even now in many cases that is still MS regardless of whether or not you agree. To this day Microsoft's operating systems and software has made the daily life of everybody from an IT Admin to the receptionist more bearable. Sure there have been plenty of hiccups on the way and they don't dominate in every space... but I just haven't found a reason to get on the hate ms bandwagon yet regardless of the people still crying about Netscrape :D

Where did you get this "Linux assumes users are dumb" nonsense from?? Seriously. The usual knock against Linux is that it's too hard, too many command-line things, etc. Very strange.
Linux will be doomed to be the "little engine that could" for the next decade to come.]
Linux is doing just fine, thanks, regardless of where you think it should be or what it should be doing. Linux is gaining more and more momentum every year. It cannot be stopped. EVen MS knows this. I think, perhaps, you're still stuck on the page of the MS playbook where they ridiculed Linux. That was a few years ago. MS has moved on to fighting Linux, albeit with dirty tricks. You need to turn the page.
Oh and I'm not MS Fan boy.
Of course you aren't.
