A new report claims that Sun's forthcoming server processor, codenamed Rock, has been canceled. Rock was five years in the making, and it introduced a number of novel ideas for wringing more parallelism out of serial code.

I've seen one or two of his movies. Don't ask me what the Rock's got cooking. You can smell the stench a mile away from any stinkbomb he's in.

ah man... he seems like a nice fellow that makes movies that kids can watch, too - even really old ones... He never seems to take himself too seriously and has remained grounded. e.g., a nice guy.
Guess that sort of thing isn't too popular...

Looks like Intel beat them to the punch. The new Core I7 processors perform a "Turbo" mode when only 1 thread is being processed. Very interesting stuff. Some of the following is speculative but the I7 is well documented.
