Mac users who run Windows applications through virtualization software could now be at risk from Windows-based security problems. A bug in several programs from VMWare allows the guest operating system (Windows) to run code on the host system (Mac OS), contrary to the intentions of such set-ups

"Sales of virtualization software are reportedly going through a steep rise. That’s likely through users switching from Windows to Macs but wanting to continue to use some Windows applications...."
Um, yeah, that's the where most of the virtualization software money is going. Right.

#2: How would you know? Or do you run Apple software? Let me guess; you have an iPod!? Goodness, what will St. Ketchum of Redmond think?

#3 Well ... if you read up on security, the number of security issues with Apple software on Windows is amazing.
I have a Sandisk eSanza. No Apple software necessary thank god.

I'll answer Latch with a question: why does Apple install a plug-in to Outlook - which by the way, cranks it just about every time. I've had to visit the trust center in Outlook too many times to count them - removing the iTunes plug-in it infests the installation with.
I presume Apple does this to see if an Outlook user is reading their newsletters? (does anyone know for sure?).
I do know that Apple software on Windows sucks and hard and we routinely provide people with alternatives to communicate with the iPods and the two iPhones I know of - yes two (2) out of many, many thousands.
All that said, the very best thing a Mac owner can do is run Windows Vista/7 and natively.
Finally, I have never seen a Mac user ever sign the front side of a business check. Not ever.

#6, Are you making something of an admission?
Tell me, is it not true that Apple's iTunes peppers Windows in general and Outlook in particular, with software that is likely unknown and undesired by users of it? If it does not, present your case.
How does my pointing out the FACT that Apple's iTunes SW does IN FACT pepper a Windows machine with software that is unknown to most users and that which does have undesired negative effects on the system make me 'senile'? Are you generally bigoted, or just towards people who are more senior in age to yourself?
I am not alone in my professional observation that Apple's Windows compatible software is very often harmful to PC's.

The add-on for outlook is installed by iTunes as it is required for mobile me (Which iTunes is needed for) it is used for the contact syncing. Certainly Apple software is no more harmful to Windows software than any other companies add-ons are. Obviously it is made by Apple so people here will say that anyway, its a given.
Considering I use mobileme on the PC as well as across my macs - I make loads of use of outlook which is using the add-on and have honestly never had one problem with it. So take from that what you will about other peoples setups etc etc. Or more likely, over exhaggeration of their experiences simply because it was made by Apple.

Byron, no.. this one has been showing up in Outlook since well before MobileMe. We've been removing it for years.
If anyone does know, I'd be grateful to understand what it is.

This one is easy: don't use VMware to create the virtual space for the Windows OS.

#10: Iketchum in my limited experience with Apple I noted that iTunes installs files to sync Contacts and Calendar with the iPhone; I never used an iPod so I cannot comment about it.
While i am not crazy about iTune I also have to admit that MS is not better: WMD is one of the most clumsy and unreliable software I dealt with. The worst part is that, at least until now, it seems that W7 will not be gifted by a newer and better release of WMD.

#13, Thanks, Fritz. My only experience with iTunes has been fixing it, and or device/sync related issues for a few customers. We only have a few customers that are iTunes users. Surprisingly, many are Amazon users. A good number use Zunes, because of the three device and three computer allowance on one account, which is a good value for their subscription dollar. Counting Byron, we have two iPhone users - one of which works with us (so there goes the myth that I don't support their use).
I think the only valid comparison regarding iTunes and MS media software, has to be the Zune software itself, which is very good. They are the most similar in purpose. Having no direct use of iTunes, I can't say how good, or bad it is, less the plug-ins that seem to harm Outlook 2007 installations, where clients are set up as RPC over HTTPS users (Outlook Anywhere). The iTunes process hangs and prevents Outlook from closing. Clearing the plug-in from the Trust Center resolves it. Interestingly, removing iTunes does not remove the plug-in. I've never been able to find out exactly what the thing is and don't spend a lot of time on it, as clearing solves the issue and we don't have any customers that need it for any reason.
