Nvidia: Microsoft Arbitration Could Last 6 Months | |

Arbitration proceedings between graphics chip maker Nvidia Corp and Microsoft Corp over a chip Nvidia makes for the Xbox video game console could take as long as six months, an Nvidia executive said on Wednesday. Nvidia says it has been forced into binding arbitration by Microsoft over the price of a custom graphics processor for the game console and the volumes in which Nvidia produces the chip. The arbitration process could be as short as two months or as long as six months, Mike Hara, Nvidia's vice president for investor relations, said at a Merrill Lynch-hosted technology conference in San Francisco. | ||

Actually it's MS that's bitching--they payed Nvidia 300 million upfront--this was mostly for developing the custom chip, but was also supposed to account for unit purchases. Well, MS way-overestimated, and if they hadn't paid up front, they would only be responsible to Nvidia for 13 million dollars. So it's MS that's pissed they can't sell XBoxes, and it's gotta b Nvidia's fault, not there's.
And, yes, Nvidia is voluntarily participating in binding arbitration because they don't want MS so miffed that they go with someone else. |
