Microsoft brings MSN to the Mac market | |

Microsoft's MSN Internet service is dipping its toe into the Macintosh market. The Redmond, Wash., software giant has quietly introduced MSN Internet Access for the Mac to customers in the 14 states that get local phone service through Qwest Communications International. The service, which has been running for about two weeks, is part of a deal Microsoft struck with Qwest a year ago to transition Qwest's dial-up and broadband customers from the Qwest.net service to Microsoft's MSN service. As part of the deal, Microsoft was required to offer service for Qwest's Mac customers. MSN product manager Lisa Gurry told CNET News.com that Mac customers make up a small fraction of Qwest.net's 500,000 subscribers. | ||

In another funny twist, MSN Messenger is Carbonized and fully MacOS X compatible. Couldn't believe it when I saw it :)

| AOL Instant Messegner has been carbonized for quite some time. It's basically the full product with one or two features missing which they are working to add ASAP...or so they say. The current AIM app is actually ery good. MSN Messenger has been out for a long time also. I don't do a lot of online chatting so it doesnt really affect me. |

Maybe AOL is waiting on a new Mac release until they transition the codebase to Gecko. At least it would be smart of then to move the Mac to gecko for slightly easier cross-platform code maintenance. Just guessing as I never used the service other than when I'm troubleshooting someone's computer that has it. This post was edited by n4cer on Wednesday, May 01, 2002 at 21:26. |
