XP Holding Pattern Set To End With Windows 7 | |

The success of Microsoft's Windows 7 beta test phase has organizations that have been locked in a Windows XP 'holding pattern' looking to jump directly from XP to Windows 7. And now that Microsoft has said it will allow XP customers to buy Windows 7 upgrade media and upgrade licenses, that path is about to get pretty crowded.

I have core business applications that to this very day are not compatible with Windows Vista. Is MS saying here that those applications will not be compatible with W7? <sarcasm> Oh no! We thought everything would now magically work! </sarcasm> The next thing you know MS will be telling us that the sky is blue..... |

| Sounds like you want to contact the developers of your business applications and ask them why it's not compatible with Vista. This happens with every major release of Windows (and Mac OS, just before you say something) where there's a few apps that won't completely play ball with the latest OS so if your developer isn't up to the job of making it compatible, then you should take your business elsewhere. |

| Install enough RAM to run Virtual PC and run XP virtually. Problem solved, especially if the company purchased volume license XP Pro. This will be cheaper than paying for updated software that may be a dog (any version of ACT! past version 6, for example) when what you use presently does exactly what you want it to do. |

| At this point, why wouldn't businesses just still stick with XP? MS would just end up extending support for it again anyway. |

Microsoft’s Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V) Might work. BTW - no one and I mean no one that writes an OS is more concerned with legacy apps than MS. |
