"Microsoft's days may be numbered." Every company's days are numbered. Nothing is immortal. It is ludicrous to imply that their big downfall is starting. MS will experience some pain in the slow global economy, possibly even seeing a drop in income. IE problems will not kill off MS anymore than faulty fuel tank placement causing Ford Pinto's to blow up in rear end collisions caused Ford to go away as a company, and Ford's isssue was a lot more deadly than mere software holes.

Browsers have flaws.
Firefox has many: http://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox20.html Plus, the author, Samara Lynn is not exactly unbiased: "She spent the early part of her career employed at IBM and the last several years at a major New York care facility where she was most recently IT Director. Lynn has degrees in computer science and writing as well as several technology certifications. It's a ridiculous article and equally ridiculous notion... that Microsoft and Windows either never had, or are losing relevance opposite consumers...
Ok... are you freaking kidding me...?!?!? First, businesses subsidize the availability of technologies for consumers and most certainly, consumer facing product companies like Apple benefit from that enormously. The constant downward pressure on prices opposite components for example, allows companies like Apple, and *nix distributors to leverage the Windows ecosystem by making low cost system hardware affordable for consumers and profitable for the companies manufacturing products for them. The entire ecosystem Microsoft created and sustains blueprints the means for competing companies to exist and prosper. Second, the suggestion that only Microsoft software has security related flaws is utter nonsense and to present them in the limited and increasingly irrelevant context of Windows XP distorts any sense of reality - much less where Microsoft and the ecosystem around it are headed. Third, Microsoft is increasing, not decreasing its release of platforms, software and hardware for consumers. The article presents an opinion that smacks of a reality the author wishes to be and uses a single flaw in a single product to support it. It causes one to question not only the intellect of the author, but also her grasp on reality. |
