Long Zheng: Connecting the dots is so fun. Usually I don’t speculate about release dates, especially if the only source is “I heard from my step-brother’s uncle who knows someone who works on Windows”, but I’m pretty confident about this one.

Likewise #1. The article is full of nonsense speculation. For the record, if it RTM late October (lets say 31st for argument's sake), then they aren't going to start selling it in late Dec so it'll most likely be released early Jan, just like Vista (which RTM'd early Nov - so roughly similar dates). If we go further back, we will find XP was released two months after it RTM'd, just like Vista.
So no, it won't be released a month after it RTM, two months at least. The article sounds like it's making up stuff to fit it's own conclusion. |

I bet it will be available, at least for OEM and maybe companies that have agreement like Open License etc, by the end of October 09.
Btw Vista became available in November for companies with like the ones mentioned above. |

| Yep #3, Vista indeed became available end November for OEM, etc. It wasn't formally released till Jan though, which was two months later. The article implies a one month period, which is nonsense considering the track record of the last two OSes. In any case, Microsoft haven't said anything either way apart from some vague mumblings about 2009-2010 so the article is still pure speculation. |

C'mon folks, spin up your propellers and think...
Win7 will RTM in OCT and Win7 will ship on new systems in time for the holiday shopping season in Nov-Dec 09. Here's why: The driver model is the same as it is for Vista - so existing and upcoming hardware certified to run Vista will run Win7 without modification. The situation is totally and radically different from when Vista RTM'd. Manufacturing processes are far better now than they ever have been and common lines crank out systems for PC OEM's one minute and Apple the next - on the same line. The time to new product shipping has collapsed and utterly so. Win7, like Vista is image based and stooopid simple to update builds. It has never been easier or faster to move Windows onto new iron. This will be even better under Win7. Win7 may be called Windows 7, but its version number is going to be 6.1 - apps that run on Vista will run on Windows 7 without modification. Windows Vista walked point for Windows 7 for three long tough years and all the progress and new hardware with integrated memory controllers and far more powerful and efficient cores will make it fly. These facts will drive OEM's, HW manufacturers and ISV's onto Vista now - where it matters most (compatibility), it is safe for all to invest in Vista, which in 09, we'll see all concerned do in record numbers. |
