VMware ESX took home our Clear Choice award because in our performance and qualitative analysis of the hypervisor and the
first tier of management tools offered by each vendors it showed depth and maturity while Microsoft’s Hyper-V’s components
were both very Windows-focused and very rough.
Performance, as reported earlier this month, heavily favored VMware, although Hyper-V edged out ESX in a few contests. | ||

I think if you read the performance report, you might notice that Hyper-V did better than VMware in almost all cases other than oversubscription.
"At six VM guests, both hypervisors are starting to struggle to deliver performance comparable to what a native operating system running directly on the server can pull off. But Microsoft kept its performance drop a bit more in check as it appears to have mastered a more linear distribution of hypervisor resources when VMs get piled on. " "In the hosted SLES results where each VM accessed a single vCPU, we again saw that Hyper-V VM guest instances get a formidable boost from the Microsoft Linux IC as SLES Linux VMs ran faster on Hyper-V than on VMware ESX." Translation: Hyper-V outperformed VMware. |

VMWare is the 'lotus notes' of the 2000's
They will live off their first-mover sales for a long while. But wholly new customer growth will soon be rare for them. |
