Desktops allows you to organize your applications on up to four virtual desktops. Read email on one, browse the web on the second, and do work in your productivity software on the third, without the clutter of the windows you’re not using. After you configure hotkeys for switching desktops, you can create and switch desktops either by clicking on the tray icon to open a desktop preview and switching window, or by using the hotkeys. | ||

This is absolute garbage. The forums are packed with users complaining about several major problems. I had the switchback after n seconds bug, while a coworker had the Not Enough Storage bug. Do yourself a favour if you need a multidesktop util, go to Codeplex and grab this:

| Why not? More choice is better. Competition is even better. After looking at VDM, I stumbled upon Dexpot. Not bad at all. Any of them are better than this craptacular Desktops 1.0. |

I'll tell you why - because it is basic functionality. There is not a whole lot that you can add to a desktop switcher that isn't already there in a myriad of other desktop switchers. It's like choosing between paper clips.
I tried both the Sysinternal and the Vista/XP virtual desktop last night. They are both different levels of crap! Systnternals pegged my CPU so I killed it. Although the Vista/XP virtual desktop was more CPU friendly, it has a nasty habit of rearranging the order of windows on the taskbar. It also leaves the icon for Toad on every desktop. The desktop switcher I used 10 years ago seemed to work better. So when I say it's like choosing between paper clips, I'm being too generous. In this case it's more like choosing between bent paper clips. |
