As long as you have enough power, attaching many USB devices to your Microsoft Windows XP system can’t cause degradation in performance — even if you attach as many as 127 USB devices at one time.

If there's anywhere device management needs a total re-write, it's how USB is presented in the device manager.
After years and years, I've given up on understanding this whacked section of the device manager. I'd love to see a utility that scans your system and maps out every piece of USB hardware on your system including controllers, hubs and devices. It should lay them out much like a network map. TL |

#1, Look at it by connection property, TL.
Example: open the device manager, expand the USB Tree, Select some nebuously worded USB device, like "USB Root Hub" - right-click it, click the power tab and you can take note of exactly what is on, supported by, or connected to that particular USB port - some may be peripheral devices and some will surprise you - like on laptops you may see iterna devices actully connected to the USB sub-system. | Lloyd: It is a bit faster to left button double click on USB Root Hub, after digging down the tree a bit in Connection View. The double click takes one directly to the tabs. Right mouse clicking adds a step in Vista as one must select properties from the menu before the tabs will appear. No big deal as each technique gets you where you want to go. |

| #3, Thanks Bobs; you're right, but I wanted folks to be able to see other options, too - e.g., Update Driver, Disable, etc... as well as properties. I know they can get to them via the tabs, but I wanted them to see the direct access to other options. |
