Microsoft to release near-final beta of HPC Server 2008 | |

Microsoft Wednesday said it plans to release at the end of the month another beta of its Windows HPC Server 2008 and that the final version will ship by year-end.

If you think that Microsoft is behind in the virtualization area, in the HPC area they are near the bottom of the barrel. In regards to this "Top 500" list, their OSs on just 5% of the supercomputers running on the planet.

| The percentage of systems isn't very impressive, but the efficiency ratings are remarkable, particularly considering the relative maturity of Windows HPC solutions vs. Linux. |
