Microsoft Corp Chairman Bill Gates is due to take the witness stand on Monday to defend the company he co-founded against sanctions sought by nine states still pursuing a landmark antitrust case against the software giant. The decision to call Gates as a witness is a reversal of tactics used in the original Microsoft trial, where he was seen only in unflattering portions of a videotaped pretrial interview played by government lawyers. Microsoft has said Gates will use his testimony to warn U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly that the states' proposed remedies will harm consumers and the computer industry.
