Announcing the Open XML Format SDK April CTP | |

The 2007 Microsoft® Office system introduces a new file format that is based on XML called Open XML Formats. Microsoft Office Word 2007, Microsoft Office Excel® 2007, and Microsoft Office PowerPoint® 2007 all use these formats as the default file format. Open XML formats are useful for developers because they are an open standard and are based on well-known technologies: ZIP and XML. Microsoft provides a library for accessing these files as part of the WinFX technologies in the System.IO.Packaging namespace. The Open XML Format SDK is built on top of the System.IO.Packaging API and provides strongly typed part classes to manipulate Open XML documents. | ||

#1 - ODF to/from OOXML translators have been available for months. The core structure of OOXML has been set for months. Why wouldn't these kind of programs and APIs be available now?
#2 - Childish conspiracy theorists everywhere... for god's sake get over yourselfs... its just a file format. Its not like they're nuclear command codes?!!? Grow up. And can we also please call it by its real ISO standardised name of OOXML and not act like a child throwing a tantrum. |

Yeah, I know what you mean. Every time I bring up a link about problems with Vista, I have every Microbot on AW accusing me of being part of the world-wide media conspiracy to tarnish Vista. If you care to refute anything at all listed on either of those links, feel free to do so. for god's sake get over yourselfs... its just a file format. No, it's about the process, about MS subverting this process to once again give itself an unfair advantage. And can we also please call it by its real ISO standardised name of OOXML and not act like a child throwing a tantrum. MS has officially changed the name of the format to OXML and not OOXML. Since ISO calls for the "standard" (ha ha) to not be tied to any one product (again, ha ha), MS had to remove the 'Office' part of it. Try to keep up. Last, could you explain how using the acronym OXML, even if it was incorrect, is equivalent to a child throwing a tantrum? Because, otherwise, it appears that you're merely trying to smear me with this seemingly inappropriate label. |
