The first wave includes English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish versions of Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 are now available. These are available by clicking a Subscriber Downloads and Product Keys link from the Subscriptions Home page or the Subscriptions Management page - which takes you to the Subscriber downloads system. These are not currently on Akamai (the Top Downloads list). | ||

Just a quick tip for those that may not know.
Say you buy a copy of the OS at retail, or online ( even an OEM copy ) You can still download the slip-streamed version of Vista and use the media you burn from the ISO to do an install with SP1. Just use the key on your purchased media and whatever that key is for is what will install. It is a great way to get a slip-streamed install with SP1, but using media and a key you already have, or may have recently purchased. Just as an example, we bought an OEM version of Windows Vista Ultimate x64 and we used that key, but we used media produced from the ISO that had SP1 slipped into it. In addition to saving a lot of time downloading updates, we saved the work to prep and install SP1 and we have a cleaner install on top of it. |

I have a legal key for a retail of vista ult. would this make the MSDN iso install a ult version?

@5 & 6, There are a number of ways of getting an MSDN sub. You can buy one of many different subscriptions, or you can work with your employer and ask them to pay for it. Many companies who use MS software understand that it is beneficial to have access to MSDN. Even very small companies have employees that work with MS software and the network is suitable for many of them for a lot of reasons. Testing software and platforms, etc...
All images contain all versions of Windows Vista, unless they specifically state otherwise. For example, an ISO image from MSDN will contain all versions, but allow you to enter one of many different keys so you can test all versions of the operating system within the architecture designated (32 bit will have only 32 bit versions and 64 bit will only have those versions). It is a good idea that you do this so you can see how it actually makes some sense to have more than one version of Vista. OEM versions of the OS only contain the one version sold in the package. An OEM copy of Windows Vista Ultimate x64 will only contain 64 bit software, etc... Just remeber, the valid key you use is what will determine what version of the OS is installed. If you test a lot, do not specify a key at all. If you do not, an additional step will be seen during set up where you can choose which version of the OS to install. Even if you use a Windows Home Premium 32 bit disc, you can choose to install Ultimate 32 bit if you do not specify a key and apply a valid Ultimate key later. While it seems like it can get confusing, it is not really. It is all designed to be as flexible as possible and provide people with choices. |
