Performance Results Mixed with Vista Service Pack 1 | |

Microsoft's newly released Service Pack 1 may solve some of the performance glitches that have annoyed Windows Vista users and discouraged others from adopting the OS, but it doesn't appear from our initial tests to be a panacea. In our first tests of the service pack, file copying, one of the main performance-related complaints from Vista users, was significantly faster. But other tests showed little improvement and in two tests, our experience was actually a little better without the service pack installed than with it. | ||

| I found performance after SP1 to be much zippier overall, especially Explorer/shell and IE and apps all are significantly faster on my C2D 2.0 GHz, 1GB RAM, Aero graphics. |

I just loaded the RTM on a system that had the RC on it. Everything is running great and all my little problems with Vista have disappeared. The system seems more responsive overall but I didn't really have an issue before. The main thing I have noticed is that the hard drive doesn't seem to randomly thrash away as much.
#1 Why would you even bother to run Vista on 1GB of RAM? You will see a huge improvement by going to 2GB so why not spend the 30 bucks. |

#3: to tell you the truth, I didn't see much of a bump in performance going to 2 gig, but I haven't run it through a lot of tests yet. This post was edited by rxcall on Monday, February 11, 2008 at 07:17. |
