Windows XP Service Pack 1 Invites Go Out | |

Thanks go out to the various readers who have e-mailed in their invites to the upcoming Windows XP Service Pack 1 beta test. It looks like there will be two different styles, one intergrated onto a CD for OEM's and the downloadable service pack for all of us other users. Windows XP SP 1 will be available in several variations. You have been selected randomly to participate in only a subset of these primary variations, which you will be made aware of very soon. You will not be able to alter your placement.

#1, the service pack will not "need a patch later", rather, another service pack may be needed in order to fix OTHER bugs.... get a life troll.
#3, service packs have ALWAYS and will ALWAYS be free for download, available on CD, available integrated in a new boxed version of Windows, and integrated on OEM machines. |

XP IS a loser in Microsoft's most important market. The Corporate Market. I use XP on one machine. The one that I do all my gaming on. The rest run Win2K Pro or Server. If MS hadn't of stuffed so much non-essential crap into XP, I would be using it everywhere except on my servers. TL |

Which brings us back to my point that XP is NOT a success in the Corporate Market.
Until, of course, they are forced to upgrade or lose upgrade benifits. They did it with Office, and I expect them to do the same with Windows eventually. TL |

| The only reason the Corp market has not jumped on XP, is for one, most rolled out 2K and are not about to spend the money for an update to XP. There is no need to yet. Also the economy suks right now, so they are not going to spend the money right now. I work for a company with over 22,000 PC's, we are moving to 2K server next year, and most likely 2K Pro or XP Pro next year as well. Unfortunately not all Corp software is ready for XP yet. Only the IS managers in our company are even allowed to use XP Pro or Office XP, since VPN does not work perfectly out of XP and some Excel add ons tdo not work out of Office XP. We have many Office XP licenses, we just chose to run Office 2K. When the other software people catch up to the XP bandwagon then we will switch. Most likely when we upgrade desktops next year we may use XP Pro on them. But there has not been a business need for even 2K yet in our company. It just does not really do it for us, we can function %100 on NT 4.0. But we have tested 2K Server and AD and Exchange and will roll out next year. |

| I love XP... stable, stable, stable... and when something does go wrong you can normally fix it by just jumping back a day or so in system restore... Some bugs I have found with faster user swiching but hey, all and all, XP is well worth the upgrade... especially if you can use remote assistance... |

i find it really funny all the talk about a OS no one has ever used or even seen. Nothing is set in stone, there's a good chance longhorn might never be made, and all this talk will be for naught.
