Disappointing.
"Windows XP SP3 does not include Windows Internet Explorer 7, although Windows XP SP3 does include updates to both Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7" Hopefully somebody is able to slipstream the 2 together. |

| Why is it disappointing? If I'm a customer and want IE7 I probably would have already gotten it by now. If I'm a corporate customer, the last thing I want in a Windows service pack is an IE upgrade that has a huge potential to destablilize the deployment of an otherwise straightfoward service pack. |

I agree. I have clients that cannot run IE7 because of software incompatibilities that are not going away soon. I am pretty sure this is common in the business world as I have seen it at a number of companies that I work for. Not including IE7 was the smart choice. |

The purpose of a service pack is to get all components up to the latest version. And Microsoft has never deviated from the fact that Internet Explorer is part of the operating system.
I'm sure their's already complaints of an sp3 dll or active-x control that breaks an app. That's no reason to keep them out of the service pack. If an app is unable to handle the latest OS components then that PC should remain on sp2 and/or IE6. Shooting the service pack in the foot is not the answer. Especially since this may be the last service pack for Windows XP. |

| The purpose of a service pack is to bundle security and critical reliability updates. It is <u>not</u> to provide functionality updates, and certainly not to break corporate applications. IE7 falls in both of those later categories. Including security updates for IE7, which would only be installed if IE7 were already installed on the workstation, covers the very first category above. Anyone that wants IE7 as part of the sp3 upgrade can quite easily either drop it first using WSUS or build a combined IE7/XP sp3 install image. |
