The Microsoft Corporation suggested in court today that SBC Communications was seeking tough antitrust restrictions against it to cripple its ability to compete in the telecommunications market. SBC, the second-largest local telephone company in the United States, was the latest target of Microsoft's strategy of questioning the motives of executives who testify in support of the nine states that are seeking tighter controls on Microsoft's activities.
With hearings on the states' proposals in their fourth week, Microsoft is trying to show that the states are advancing the interests of companies like SBC, AOL Time Warner and Sun Microsystems.
