Stocks slid in midday trade on Tuesday as a downbeat forecast on a slew of technology firms, including Microsoft Corp. , and worries about higher oil prices sent investors toward the exits. "Microsoft is a huge percentage of the market and viewed as one of the leading stocks. It's symbolic of what might befall other players in the space," said Dan Peirce, senior strategist for State Street Global Advisors, which oversees $700 billion. | ||

| Boy you know a lot about the stock market--like People has any reflection on the market, like Goldman isn't the biggest underwriter and supporter of MS (the real news in the story). |

#4, Peoplesoft issued its own warning and got hit for it. Goldman, being MS's underwriter and one of the largest institutional investors in the world is assessing a slower national and global tech recovery primarily based on their data concerning MS. Do you see the difference?
Oh, never mind, I get it number #4--you don't bother to read the stories so you are upset that the title would mislead people who don't read. |

Boy I rarely chime in on these boards but "No, but maybe I can make stupid people feel too stupid to risk posting some stupid crap." has got to be one of the weakest justifications for being a complete jerk I've ever seen.
Guess you never learned to just let other people have the glory once and a while and just move on. I guess you have to be right though sodaJERK. I hate to bring this up as well, you don't know the market like the back of your hand either. In fact, no one does and no one ever will. Anyone who tells you they either have the "inside track" or they know what's going to happen to the market is obviously a little misinformed and full of themselves. You can't tell me what's going to happen with the market even tomorrow let alone months from now, so lay off others as you yourself don't know what's going to happen. No, I don't either. Period. The outrageous amounts of mud-sligning that occurs in these boards is really incredible. You are never going to have perfect journalism let alone perfectly stated opinions so just read the articles and opinions you wish and move on. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with someone, but the amount of times people disagree and leave it at that are slim and none. People still rip non-stop comments about Microsoft's anti-trust case on these boards... amazing. You have no control over it folks, why not just relax and laugh at what we all know to be truly incorrect claims about the company many of us adore. Meanwhile, I'm not making an attack on everybody, or just sodajerk in particular. It does amaze me though that in 7 messages, this place turned into a "you suck and that's it" style of conversation. aamendala, why is "I call people, who are fools, fools because I hope they will feel foolish and stop acting like fools" a weak justification. I really do mean no harm, and it's only reactionary hard asses or uptight prisses who give a crap. Really, I mean it.
By the way, I'm usually getting attacked left and right from the usuals while getting silly crap from the true trolls (the anons that pass thru) when I am actually trying to provide info or make an argument. So, yes, when I get personal, I usually get pretty personal. Just take a look at the "MS Weak Argument" Post to see the stupidity that's usually AIMED AT ME. I don't know what the hell you are referring to here--no one for miles is talking about having this nonexistent "inside track" you are referring to; we are talking about research based on public financial data. And this isn't that interesting a story--it's interesting to me because of Goldman's role. Goldman is a very reputable and solid investment house that I've always respected but I've always felt their relationship with MS must be a little hinky--here is one of only a few examples I've seen in years of Goldman drawing some critical attention to MS. | No, #11, the article title suggests that news about MS could affect other stocks which is true. This article then mentions about 15 different things happening on the market--one of them being PeopleSoft getting crunched after revising their numbers--this is unrelated to MS's news, and this news doesn't have as large an impact on other stocks as one of the most widely held stocks in the world, one which many other companies and industires are dependent on. This article contains little to no misinformation and it's actually disgraceful to see people railing against it as if it's important, or misinformation, or a classic example of the big evil anti-MS press. |

#13, my statement has nothing to do with largest percentage decrease (or increase for that matter) or about volume or about whatever silliness you and others are talking about. My statement and this article are saying: today was a bad tech day; bad days on the floor are often the result of some news however minor; or maybe that news doesn't really affect the market but it becomes the center of conversation or speculation; today that news was Goldman warning about the slowness of a tech recovery; Goldman cites info relating to MS to demonstrate this slower than expected recovery.
If you were to ask 1000 analysts and a few hundred CEOs what news today might have affected this or that individual stock or the tech industry as a whole, I would bet that 50-80% would mention Goldman's warning on MS and the tech industry as a whole. Plain and simple. Doesn't involve mysterious insider info, doesn't involve the evil press, it simply involves the consensus of people in the investment industry who are focused on tech. Economic news is silly stuff anyway; the investment world has many machines and mouthpieces at its disposal, and what is news today isn't tomorrow. But to say this is an innaccurate story or that it targets MS in a biased fashion is to ignore the fact that MS is the 360 BILLION DOLLAR Behemoth of the investment world. |
