Support.com, a "Instant Technology Relief" support website that opened its doors to troubled techies in June, has released survey results from its first month of business. The number one reason for support calls? Vista questions. From a pool of 1,000 users that inquired about technical help, 77 percent needed help with Vista. Of those inquiring about Vista, 30 percent needed help navigating around Vista's new Aero user interface. | ||

I guess re-designing everything for new users doesnt really make sense when you own 95% of the market...
Nothing in the new UI makes anything easier than it was before. Nothing was groundbreaking, and the only new things I really like are the Command Line here (good for when you have to use a system that isnt yours) and Copy As Path (really want this to be in the standard context menu next time!) the new break crumb bar is not a good replacement of Explorer, the feel of the tree in Explorer sucks and removing the Up Dir button is sucks even more. The title bar is a waster of space now that it doesnt show the path. They waste an inch on each window with essentially nothing (back/forward, ineffiect breadcrumb bar, search) Combine that with a veryy inconsistent UI color scheme (trying to find the focus si extremely hard to do. I just hope the realize what Apple did with OS X - transparency is good, to a point, but it can really make things look messy - look at OS X 10.1 and then look at 10.4 - they use transparency much less now. Also the lighting effect for the glass has to go - its sloppy and they really need to reduce the performance impact of the UI - you can still have pretty while keeping it clean and simple Over all the new UI is just messy, inconsistant and HUGE! |
