Back in the 1990s Bill Gates said the company that would eventually beat Microsoft probably had yet to be founded, by which he meant that Microsoft was in such a strong position that only something truly disruptive -- a whole new business -- would have a chance to unseat Redmond. Some people think the company Bill was describing back then might be Google. I don't know if that's the case or not, but it leads me to ask this question: If Google, itself, is to be eventually beaten by some other company, does THAT company yet exist? I don't think so. But unlike the scenario envisioned by Gates, I have a pretty good idea where we'll find the founders of that Google-beating start-up. I think they are working right now at Google. | ||

The stage is set for Google to become the biggest invader of Privacy on the planet. Even Google seems to know that given some of their statements lately.
I think we may see a major backlash against Google before all is said and done. I haven't trusted them since they went public. TL |

| #2: One thing you can always count on is the apathy of the people. There will be no major backlash, no matter what Google does. There has not been any meaningful backlash against MS for all the ills they've caused. It's the boiled frog principle. If you screw the people slowly enough, they won't notice until it's too late. |

Prognostication is meaningless, and all too easy. See: Next week the stock market will retrench and fall 200 points due to profit taking. Oil will be $62 per barrel. Wholesale gas prices will drop a nickel. An asteroid will strike the earth in 2036. Medical care in the US will still be less important to the federal executive and legistative branches than building an empire in the Middle East. By 2015 Google will be evil with the new slogan "WTF were we thinking when we said don't be evil?"

No empire-building, it's to look for weapons of mass deception, I mean, toppling a dictator, I mean, spreading democracy. It's not DRM, it's Digital Consumer Enablement, etc etc etc. Every time you look up and think you know what's going on, there's a whole crapload of people trying to tell you that it isn't really what it appears to be and please move along. |
