Greetings from Windows Live OneCare! This past winter you helped test Windows Live OneCare (v1.5), we would now like to invite you to the OneCare Perpetual Beta. Windows Live OneCare is a comprehensive PC care service that goes beyond security to take an integrated approach to help protect and care for your computer. If you are interested in helping us out test out new features and functionality for the OneCare service, we invite you to join the Windows Live OneCare Perpetual Beta on the Microsoft Connect Web site at http://connect.microsoft.com. Your role in testing Windows Live OneCare is important to us. Participating in the Perpetual Beta means that you will have the first chance to test out new features before they are released to the public. By including you in the development process, we can make sure that Windows Live OneCare functions properly and meets the needs of customers. We hope you will join our beta and help make Windows Live OneCare the best it can be. To accept this invitation and become a member of Windows Live OneCare Perpetual Beta, please follow these steps: 1. Visit http://connect.microsoft.com 2. Click on Invitations on the left navigation menu. 3. You will need to sign in using a valid Passport e-mail address and password before you can continue to the Invitations page. 4. | Everyone likes free stuff. The problem with this offer is that when I tested OneCare 1 and later 1.5 it turned out to be the worst antivirus program that was designed to actually remove viruses. |

| I found it alot faster and better then Norton, which I found does a very good compaired to alot of other AV programs. |

Hopefully I get invited to this beta. I have been happy with OneCare. Until my son gets old enough to be browsing somewhat on his own, I feel comfortable with the protection that OneCare provides. My wife and I are both conscious of where we are on the Internet and what we are doing, so our risk of infection is somewhat low.
My main concern, and I'd love to see this added to OneCare, is some sort of off-site backup via the Internet that would use a small block of upstream bandwidth to continuously back up my files. I have tried iDrive and haven't had success yet. I'm still troubleshooting that. TD |

#2 Norton processes highly impact performance. However, should you scan an infected hard drive that is hooked up to a clean PC, and test various programs with clones of the infected drive; you will discover that Avira AntiVir is the faster and far superior antivirus program, including the free consumer version. AntiVir rates up there with NOD32 and other high performers. Norton is not at the same performance level, as it lets too many viruses go undetected. Maybe Symantec will one day return Norton to its former preeminence. Not today, however. In the meantime I do make a nice buck cleaning customer PCs that use Norton "protection". I found OneCare to be fast but ineffective at cleaning PCs. Some of the other automated features of OneCare are pretty cool. This post was edited by bobsireno on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 13:15. |

#4. Just ran Avira AntiVir, on a HD I use for testing AV programs, 40G of data.
Avira AntiVir Found 432 Took: 4 hours 18 minutes Norton 2003 Found 582 Took: 2 hours 6 minutes Windows Live Oncare Found 561 Took 1 hours 18 minutes All programs were up to date, and were scanned remotely |

| TL, your advice resulted in our expanding our exploration of NOD32 and its deployment to select customers. - thanks for the recommendation - it is far less costly for SMB's and so far, it has worked well - though it is way early to be very definitive. |
