Microsoft issues hotfix for file copying bug in Vista | |

Microsoft has issued a hotfix after receiving more than 100 complaints concerning a bug in Windows Vista that makes it difficult to copy files from one disc or PC to another. The bug affects a function in Vista that calculates the time remaining to complete a file copy. .. "When moving a file (size not important) from drive C to drive E (both Sata II on same PC), it takes ages for the green progress indicator in the address bar to reach 100%. File transfer starts but the progress indicator doesn't move." After an indeterminate period, transfer starts moving the progress bar along to completion. | ||

Another one of those "Call Microsoft to obtain the HotFix".
I hate these types of fix releases. If it's broke, issue the damned fix on the KB page! I don't have time to deal with MS on the phone to obtain a hotfix to resolve a known issue. TL |

| I'm sure they will include a link to this in a timely manner but obviously the fact that it's a "hotfix" means it's been rushed out with just basic testing to make sure it works. Once they have tested it throughly (in the usual proper manner and to their schedule), they can incorporate this into the proper updating channels. |

| This would be nice to have, and also perhaps a fix for the horrid I/O performance of Vista in general. |

| I think the I/O performance may be a driver issue--I have really, really (!) lousy performance on one machine, and stellar performance on another. |

| I'm running Vista x64 from an ICH8R array and it's not particularly fast but my disk performance is rated 5.9. I don't know about anybody else but I cringe every time I need to unzip a compressed folder. |
