Boot Camp 1.2 update supports Vista
Time: 15:57 EST/20:57 GMT | News Source: Ars Technica | Posted By: Jonathan Tigner

Y'all remember Boot Camp, Apple's initial solution to running Windows on Mac hardware? It seems that we've all been virtualizing so much lately that we forgot about the whole reboot-into-Windows thing. The last we heard about Boot Camp was back in January with a rumor that Apple might charge for the final version when it comes out of beta, and the last update was sometime before that.

Well Apple is reminding us that Boot Camp does, in fact, still exist with its most recent update to the software. Boot Camp 1.2, most notably, supports the new Windows Vista (32-bit). It also includes some updated drivers—"including but not limited to"—the trackpad, AppleTime, audio, graphics, modem, and the iSight. It also has added support for the Apple Remote, which now works with both iTunes and Windows Media Player.

Other, less exciting additions include a Windows system tray for Boot Camp info, improved keyboard support for a number of languages, an "improved Windows driver installation experience," updated documentation, and the addition of the Apple Software Update for WinXP and Vista. Hmm, Software Update, huh? That should be interesting. Presumably, it only updates "software" in Windows relating to Boot Camp and/or Boot Camp drivers.
