For customers who acquired a full or upgrade version of Windows Vista from retail or pre-installed, we've got a pretty sweet deal. We're announcing the Windows Vista Additional License program, which provides the ability to install the same edition of Windows Vista on any other additional computers you may own. The program allows customers to purchase up to 5 additional licenses for PCs they own at 10% off the suggested retail price. For North America, Windows Vista Additional License online orders opened 19 March (yesterday) and phone orders were available as of 28 February. For our EMEA friends, online orders will be available on 26 March, with phone orders currently planned for a future date. The program is designed to run through the entire product lifecycle of Windows Vista; thus, no end date has yet been established. | ||

How magnanimous! Eliminate the 25% distributor-reseller channel margin and associated logistical expenses and offer the consumer a 10% discount for a net 15%++ increase in per unit net income. And don't give any of that net profit to your shareholders. That's why Microsoft is so successful: they don't leave a single penny on the table.
How about a better idea? Include a free tube of K-Y Jelly or Astroglide in each Vista Ultimate package. This way it won't hurt so bad when Microsoft shoves their huge price increase up your bum. |

In the past retail outlets had XP Home upgrade on sale for as low as $49 (Best Buy one week in 2006) up to only 10% off. I say watch for sales. There will be plenty as the dust builds up on the retail boxes fo Vista. Or, buy OEM if you want a flavor of Vista "now".
#2 you are correct. MS has built a strong direct purchase from MS system with Vista. Retailers have something to think the next time they negotiate with MS's retail reps. |
