Live Search to Begin 'Incentive' Enterprise Trial | |

Thirty companies will have opportunity to participate in a Microsoft trial measuring search traffic among large businesses. Microsoft also will offer incentives, such as credits for products or services, to participants. Hurry, though. Participation is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Microsoft is seeking participants through the end of the month, before starting the trial, which will go on for a year. Participating companies would install an Internet Explorer "browser helper object" for measuring search query traffic through Windows Live Search. Microsoft would offer the credits based on the number of users and volume of search queries. | ||

I can't wait to see the blogger backlash at this idea... that if originated at Google... would be considered the shrewdest strategy of the 21st century. |

Paying businesses to use their crappy search engine because no-one else wants to use it... wow now THAT'S shrewd! No no, it's innovative... I mean, that's never been done before! You've got something on your nose there mooresa56! I doubt it's coming off anytime soon though.
I hope their "browser helper object" also counts the number of queries that the users will pump through the useful search engines, like Google, after being utterly dissatisfied with the "results" of their Live search. I also hope that the employees start complaining about having Live search forced down their throats all so that the business can get a few dollars off their next purchase of Windows or Office licenses. |

thanks for illustrating a full one-half of my point... by criticizing msft's approach.

You know, I was thinking the same thing when I found out Google was paying Firefox. And I was even more amazed when Google added the pre-fetch feature as a quid-pro-quo since that feature overinflates Firefox's appearance in weblogs. |
