Some users, who are helping Microsoft test whether renting Office might be preferable to buying it for certain groups of customers, say they would. Microsoft has been testing quietly a new "pay-as-you-go" rental program for Office 2003 in South Africa, Mexico and Romania, and will decide in the next couple of months whether to extend the program to include Office 2007. | ||

| One has to give credit to MS for finding creative ways to vacumn money from our wallets, especially on what some see as a commodity product. While OpenOffice works well when opening or saving Word, Excel or Powerpoint files, nothing works like Access. Its a very nice program that we use with a large number of home grown databases. After ten years we won't stop using Access. Depending on how a company accounts for its capital outlays, leasing may become popular, even in North America. A lower monthly fee would make it attractive to many small companies. $9.95 is an easier sell than $15 per seat. |
