We have been running a number of Windows ReadyBoost tests on various USB Drive Sticks that have come out recently. Not only do we have a list of those that work, and those that don't! We have also started to go in-depth with some of them. ReadyBoost is designed to improve small random I/O for people who lack the expansion slots, money, and or technical expertise to add additional RAM. This isn’t a replacement for RAM upgrades; it’s simply the chance to speed up your Vista machine very slightly and very easily. | ||

Very handy review - thanks for providing it.
Do you have any additional authoritative numbers on optimal ratios of systems RAM to ReadyBoost capacity? I have read that ratios from 1:1 up to 3:1 provide the greatest benefit. For example, what works best for systems with 1 to 2 GB RAM and how does that benefit compare to systems with less RAM? There is a good explanation regarding all Windows Vista Performance Accelerators here, http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/c/5/9c5b2167-8017-4bae-9fde-d599bac8184a/perfaccel.doc This is the guide we used in devising our Vista PerfAccel systems strategies. Microsoft's, HotStart, ReadyBoost, ReadyDrive, SuperFetch are all covered within it, or from it. This link, http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/winlogo/default.mspx contains resources that one may use to learn more about WHQL testing and tools to perform tests. Microsoft has done a great job in supporting partners and systems builders and these tools along with those in the partner channel for OEM Systems Builders are very complete and powerful as well as very easy to use. They will literally provide any help one may ask for in support of people working with their products opposite your/their customers. Even people building a tiny number of systems per year [five (5)] will find great support. |

| Thanks Byron. Too bad we're l;iminted to a single USB drive. With 4-GB drives down to $50 each, striping would be inexpensive. Next time around, maybe. |

| I have a SanDisk Cruzer U3 but it only works with ReadyBoost for a couple of minutes before mysteriously stopping to work. |
