Every Microsoft upgrade sets a new standard--in hype. "This is the easiest-to-use version of Windows yet, and will help bring the power of the PC to new users worldwide," Bill Gates announces. The press release goes on to claim that the operating system "dramatically improves the key areas that keep users waiting on their PC today, including opening applications, accessing the Internet, and shutting down the PC. This enhanced performance, along with powerful new self-maintenance and update features, empowers users to spend more time enjoying their PCs and less time managing their system." Windows Vista? They've been marketing to partners, resellers, and system builders already. As Byron said, there's no reason to market to retail yet since "public" release isn't for a few months yet. This post was edited by arossetti on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 12:43. |

There is a GREAT reason to market it now.
People are buying computers now that are 'Vista ready"... what the hell is Vista? They do not know. Not only that but it's always nice to know about a product before it comes out (on both the consumer end and the actual manufacturer/developer/whatever end). Market now so when it does come out, people know what it is and are waiting in line to buy it. Win95 was like that, and you had more people waiting in line acting more crazy than with Tickle-me-Elmo. |

| Anyone buying a machine now probably won't care what it is anyway...but just to help them out, its explained to them in various ways when their purchase arrives, it is also mentioned via links to the vista website. Everyone will know what it is come Jan 30th and thats the only time the public need to know. |

#8 In that case neither do Microsoft by your definition.
Now the rest of the world realizes that one of the things that Microsoft is extremely good at is marketing, so perhaps they know what they're are doing. They've been marketing Vista since they begun development on it, not a week went by without someone somewhere publishing a story on which is now known as Vista. The tv advertising will begin closer to launch. |
