Microsoft moots 2008 for Euro Zune debut | |

Microsoft's Zune music player and online content store combo is "way off launch" in Europe and the UK, the company has admitted. The "earliest date" it might appear here? The end of 2007, or possibly even 2008, a Microsoft executive has revealed. "The earliest date it will be in the UK is towards the end of 2007. However, it could easily be 2008," Microsoft media and entertainment alliance manager Dene Schonknecht said, according to UK trade paper New Media Age. Zune launches in the US on 17 November, priced at $249. Microsoft always indicated the player's overseas debut would be further off, but it's fair to say most observers anticipated a launch next year, sooner rather than later. | ||

| Got to say this is a major disappointment to me although not too much of a surprise as I was told it wouldn't be out to anyone other than America until mid-2007. Still its pretty poor and shows that this is a rush job to compete with the ipod. |

So because it's not available abroad, no one in the US will buy it?
And people are going to be SOOOOO hurt by this move that when it does ship abroad that they won't buy it? Are you kidding me? |

#3 - you are missing the point, the idea was that zune would replace peoples ipods, now for the other 70% of the world other than the US that won't happen, maybe they are forgetting not only American's buy music players.
Leaving Europe and the rest of the world one or two options, buy an ipod or buy a creative zen. |

That doesn't make this a flop in any sense.
A product is only a flop if the product is available and people don't buy it (or perhaps if Microsoft just never offered it to other countries). The fact that it won't launch abroad til 2008 isn't going to stop people from buying it here, and it won't stop people from buying it in 2008. |

So they should wait for a full release in all markets?
The reason they are doing this is they want to make sure they have something for this Christmas season and they will only have enough produced for the US by then. |
