Windows XP Volume License Key validation failure | |

On Monday and Tuesday of this week (Oct 2-3), some VLK customers may have experienced problems with WGA validation. If a Windows XP system with a VLK recently began failing validation or reporting as non-genuine, then they may experiencing this problem. The problem was the result of an issue on the Microsoft server side, and we are still investigating the cause. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused you, and I am personally working to get the information you need to resolve this issue. | ||

While this issue is being "solved" some corporate users are unable to access their computer. MS claims to regret the inconvenience, accepts responsibiliyt, but doesn't act as if they really care as nothing is done to help the user make up for their lost productivity. Do they need to be sued for everthing these days to open their wallets even a little bit?
Vista's very agressive volume license activation looks like it will cause more serious issues. Does MS care? They don't act as if they do, or they would wait until WGA and activation schemes were perfected so not a single payign customer would have to risk loss of productivity. A server side error shows how unprepared they are. This bothers me quite a bit. |

| Yes--if they want WGA 2.0 to succeed, this is not doing them any favors. I'm not sure how much they would respond given the right amount of heat--whether it would be a response like that with Software Assurance or like that of IE 7. I realize they are riding a fine line between satisfying users and being responsible to their bottom line (and shareholders) as any company needs to be, but they do respond to feedback, and enough pushback from the right customers may change their mind, at least to adjust their plans. |
