Aimed at midsize companies, System Center Essentials lets you juggle multiple apps. SCE is more than just a rehash of low-end MOM (Microsoft Operations Manager) and higher-end SMS (Systems Management Server). It's a ground-up new systems management tool that's designed to allow us systems managers to do our entire job within a single console. No, that won't happen, because most of us have to manage apps and clients that don't fall within Microsoft's product boundaries, but if Redmond manages to make its products a one-console management job, that's still a significant step up. | ||

| Beta 2? Where on earth did this come from? This looks slick! SMS is great and all, but it's not very friendly on a number of levels. This looks much more pleasant to use for SMBs. |

#1, It's bad to the bone, bluvg - you'll love it.
See, they recognized that for many partners, IT revenue was inconsistent. SCE allows for centralized secure remote admin of many small networks with a very light remote client running at the client's location. Like WSUS 3.0 it's so much improved over previous management tools - easy to set up and easy to use, but very complete. I think that MS really did a great service for its partners working in the SMB market. |
