BRUSSELS - EU antitrust chief Neelie Kroes on Tuesday rejected an accusation she was pursuing a vendetta against U.S. software giant Microsoft Corp. and suspected a "coordinated campaign" to discredit her agency. "Far from pursuing a vendetta against Microsoft, the Commission's actions are guided by the desire to create the most innovation-friendly business climate in Europe to the ultimate benefit of European consumers," the European Union Commissioner wrote in a letter published in the Financial Times. | ||

| the vendetta isn't against microsoft. its against "ABE" - Anything But Europe. This is simply PROTECTIONISM. Hard to blame them, but lets call it what it is. |

#1, Dern right! Before their was an EU - before the merger between the EG and the EFTA, the EG - led by these same nations, all but destroyed many smaller economies, while protecting special interests as the price of their own people's well-being.
North Sea cod, for example - man what a mess that was - and the carrot riots that killed scores of people... "Yes, over carrots!" Like I've said: "Have some knowledge of what it is like to live a truly free society, then observe the crap that the EU pulls on its own people...." "All I can say is that there'll be plenty'o tea floating about in plenty'o harbor if it becomes any worse in these United States..." |

I've got a great idea for the commissioner. How about slapping an anti-trust suit on AirBus? You know the British and French government created and funded aircraft maker. The one that forced massive consolidation in our own aircraft industry and wiped out nearly all other competitors across the planet? It is only through superior design, craftsmanship, and vision that Boeing has survived the onslaught.
We all got the "coordinated campaign" and its not against the commission, but against Microsft. We'll not forget the extraction of nearly a billion dollars from Microsoft BEFORE it has been heard at the appeallate level in Europe. In fact, that extraction continues today. It is truly outrageous. If a European company was treated in the US as Microsoft has been treated in Europe, you'd have the EU press howling mad. By the way, when is the "country" EU going to have a constitution? You know, the one written by a bunch of elistists, but when it was allowed to be voted on by a couple of individual countries failed miserably. |

At least a handful of MEP's and analysts are beginning to ask the right kinds of questions:
From Ovum - an analyst firm in the EU, "Ovum also pointed out that the low take-up of the version of Windows XP without Media Player is not exactly a ringing endorsement of any plans to exclude certain security related features from versions of Vista." "A version of Vista that removes security-related functionality has the potential to be an even greater turkey," it said. "Security is a major concern for the European market and needs to be addressed on multiple different fronts. If the EU is going to ask Microsoft to remove security-related functionality then it needs to be very precise in its request and very clear why it is making the request. It has the potential to cause a major market disruption, with no benefit for the end-consumer whatsoever." The EU stands to lose 40 billion if it persists - that's more than 100,000 new jobs and hundreds of millions in the tax revenues the EU loves to get its hands on.... oh wait... "if it can hurt MS and still get its hands on 100's of millions in fines...." Problem is this, as I see it.... those 100's of millions would be far better spent by the people in the EU as they use a more secure OS than it ever could in the hands of any government! | #6: Yes, and those particular MEPs have a history of backing Microsoft. So naturally I expect them to distort the record to advance their pro-MS agenda. The EC does not want MS to remove security features from Vista. They have so much as said so. What they're warning MS about was to not pull the trick where MS claims that, to enhance security, they have to lock out all other vendors from the Vista security layer/service/widget/whatever. |
