Microsoft shuffles more Windows execs | |

Microsoft has made more executive changes in the division that oversees Windows, adding on Tuesday one executive to its Platforms and Services Division and saying that three will leave the group once Windows Vista is released to manufacturing. Brian Valentine, senior vice president of the Windows Core Operating System Division (COSD), will transition to a new role in the company once Vista is complete, Microsoft said. He has been a key member of the Windows team since 1998, leading the effort on many of the major Windows releases, including Windows 2000 and Windows XP, Microsoft said | ||

I hope they're keeping those guys happy--especially Cutler. I'm shocked that they're moving him off the kernel (or so it would seem). I thought he enjoyed sticking it to UNIX via NT. I wonder what they have planned for him....
I wonder if reassigning Valentine will hurt the Windows team's morale.... |

Hahaha... well, not at all, at least according to "Showstopper!":
Besides, NT would still meet the goals closest to Cutler's heart: portability, reliability, and the ability to provide an alternative to Unix, the splintered high-end operating program. The last goal was crucial to Cutler. "Unix is like Cutler's lifelong foe," said one team member who'd worked with Cutler for nearly two decades. "It's like his Moriarty [Sherlock Holmes's nemesis]. He thinks Unix is a junk operating system designed by a committee of Ph.D.s. There's never been one mind behind the whole thing, and it shows, so he's always been out to get Unix. | Interesting comment on that one page about how "ten years from now we'll be designing another system." Now he's going to work with Ozzie on the Live team. Wonder what they have in store.... |
