Too bad the site, like so many others, will not load. Ever since Sun sued MS for stealing their coffee... Script errors.... Page hangs... Sigh.
I will say this about MS hardware, it is amongst the sturdest stuff around. The problem is they only support a particular model for 18 months or so. I'm afraid that this Zune thing will be very sturdy, work really well for years, but not work with Media Player 11 when it comes out.

MR2, don't be ignorant. This thing will be tailored for WMP 11 (which'll probably be released more or less concurrently) and it's just cynicism to suggest that Microsoft dumps support for hardware after 18 months. I've been using the same MS mouse and keyboard for 6+ years, longer than anything else inside or attached to my computer. You're right that MS makes great hardware.
oldog, I'm with you. I'm completely lost as to what this flash thing has to do with a media player.

They do make great hardware, do they make the stylish good hardware that will outsell the ipod...thats yet to be seen. If the image of the Zune making the rounds is anything to go by right now then they don't. But in saying that they are talking about skins for it and everything so here's hoping.

skins? where did you read that Byron? I haven't seen that anywhere.
Agreed Osprey. This device will be paired with WM11.
guys, this "teaser" site is just that. Remember the UMPC site? Remember the tree that had xbox hidden messages? Good Lord, those odd-ball sites got a billion and one hits with ZERO Microsoft marketing expense. I think this is similar. They show nothing that you would really commit to memory other than the all-of-a-sudden appearing COLOR logo and name "Zune".
fwiw, i torrented some of the Regina Spektor albums. She's not bad. And I'd never heard of her before.

Doesn't look too bad...
http://gadgets.elliottback.com/2006/07/17/microsofts-zune-update-1/
I wish that it didn't look so much like the iPod, though. The only thing that I'd be more embarrassed to carry around than an iPod would be an iPod knockoff. I hope that Microsoft realizes this and sells them in multiple styles. I don't mind a style like this for the "me-too" masses, but I'd prefer something more original, or at least alternate, to get my dollars. Maybe make it an "advanced" model that doesn't have dumbed down controls, has lots of buttons and whatnot (techies love buttons) and non-minimalistic styling (that doesn't look like it was recycled from old toilet seats).

Its just my view from the prototype (well we hope it is) that it looks cheap, and for something selling for $400 it better not look cheap with just 30GB of space.

Perhaps it looks cheap, but that's how almost every piece of Apple hardware, including the iPod, can be described. As Apple has proven, looking cheap is perceived by the masses as "stylish" and "minimalist". Microsoft is just following suit... and, at least, without the toliet seat look.
