Still No Signs of Microsoft's YouTube Killer | |

Microsoft continues to drop hints about its plans to enter the video-sharing-service space. A couple of weeks ago on Beet TV, Microsoft video strategist Todd Herman claimed that Microsoft would outpace YouTube in consumer-generated content with Microsoft's "Warhol" service. (If Microsoft sticks with current naming conventions, Warhol will likely be christened Windows Live Video.) For now, still no real-world Warhol sightings. | ||

Why does Microsoft feel the need to enter this market? What could it possibly have to offer them? I don't see it being able to make a profit, for one... it would take a heck of a lot of ads to pay for all that video bandwidth.
The need to copy every single service that Google offers, or any other service that seems innovative, is ridiculous. |

#1: You must be new here. This is what MS has done for many years now. They sit back and watch the more nimble and fresh companies innovate, then try to dominate the new market by either copying, buying or stealing technology.

Why do it? Might not be profitable...but it's marketing. It's all about brand recognition and getting their name out there.
