Dell: Google's Secret Weapon Against Microsoft? | |

Recent comments by Google execs make it clear that Google views Dell Computers as its secret weapon against chief nemesis Microsoft. In fact, there's lots of evidence pointing to an important nexis between Google's recently rebuffed anti-trust allegations about a new Microsoft Web browser and the three-year-long deal Google recently reached with Dell Computers. The connection here is one of a cause an effect, action and reaction. To put it more specifically, Google's entered into the new relationship with Dell Computers to help neutralize the advantages Microsoft derives from its powerfully-popular Internet Explorer browser. | ||

remember, being at the mercy of OEM pre-installed software is about choice. It when Microsoft does it that its anticompetitive. But if Google and Dell force it on you its fine.
The only fair, and I use that term loosly, is to force all pre-bundled software to be user accepted- If its prebundled, it doesnt get installed unless you want it. And you can do this all through add remove programs. Pre-loaded softeare sucks and doesnt help anyone- if you cant use add/remove programs, you probably cant use the software thats pre-installed any way |

| kevn84: I dislike most Dell stuff, but you can't beat the occasional low cost specials they offer that are brought to you, partly, by preinstalled software. |

I don't know about everybody else but when I see Google anything, I uninstall it from a users computer. That google search and desktop search garbage is the most useless software i've ever seen. It sits there in the taskbar, updates itself in the tray, runs indexing processes, blah blah blah... Let's take into account about 90% of all Dell owners. How many of them do you think have enough files to necessitate indexing the contents of their hard drives? Their 20 word documents and iTunes library? I think not. Let's not forget 90% of techs out there that format and reload computers to fix them, wiping out users files.
Google is a great search engine and THAT'S IT. The only reason gmail is so popular is because they kept it in beta for so long. Forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest and google kept gmail away from the general public. I remember when you'd see posts all over the place asking for gmail invites. In good time everybody will see the light. Google isn't the innocent little upstart the media portrays it to be. Firefox isn't the secure little browser everybody says it is. Microsoft has the power and the talent to crush both of these people, only they can't do it without being sued. That to me seems to be the business of the day. |
