Microsoft is under increasing pressure to do something with Internet Explorer 7 (IE7). Like little dogs nipping at its heels, other browsers have raised the bar of user expectations. Microsoft has had to respond. If you haven't looked at IE7 yet, check out the overview from Microsoft, and download a copy of your own. The second you test it with your existing applications, you'll see why this new release will cause so much developer heartburn. | ||

No problem with IE7 yet, all the webpages and my enterprise intranet site runs fine.
I'm System Engineer student and ASP, ASP.NET developer. |

| Montanagrizzly and I speak from experience. Give yourself several more years under your belt and you'll see the truth in Montanagrizzly's post and why I referred to you as a "kid". Any experienced developer, that is not funded by MS, could easily recognize the many drawbacks of using ActiveX on web pages. |

#6, What? Good Lord. One could say the same for any RMI client/server methods...CORBA, Java RMI....? Also, one can very easily get around the main client side issues - we have and our clients and more importantly "their" clients do not have to wrap around click to activate rubbish - it does not take long and MS has published a lot of help regarding it.... I mean golly...a JVM is 'less" proprietary???

| The only problem I have with the latest release of IE7 is with NIS 2006 Menus not working correctly. Removed IE7, and the menus worked again. ;0) |

Who said anything about Java? I never compared a Java solution to an ActiveX solution. Or, is another MS zealot once again seeing things as "it's MS or it's crap". Regardless, ActiveX is the poorest and most narrow-minded solution for web clients. There are too many viable and platform independent alternatives to ActiveX to warrant it's use in any distributed web solution. Using IE as the corner-stone to your solution is silly. As the article states: Since most other browsers (including Firefox) ignore ActiveX controls, you might want to phase out use of ActiveX in your applications. They were always a bad idea. Unfortunately, this one change is going to break many applications; everything from shopping carts to data collaboration. I develop software using MS tools, but I stayed away from the ActiveX stink from day one... |
