Blu-ray forcing the machine into hiding until November. Sony has been anything but talkative these past few months regarding their plans for PlayStation 3. No one except Sony seemed to anticipate they'd continue to meet their projected spring release date in any territory, even Japan. Today, Sony officially conceded defeat to the recent flurry of rumors and speculation, with Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun reporting the company has confirmed the machine has been pushed back until November. There aren't many details out right now, but Sony says issues over the finalizatoin of copy protection technology related to their Blu-ray disc drive is the cause of the delay. | ||

No surprise there. Hopefully the delay will also help Sony from losing $400 per console (if the estimated prices and costs are correct).
Too bad XBox wasn't a separate subsidiary with its own stock.... |

| But doesn't the delay give the xbox more time for market penetration? At this point of the game market share means more to MS than generating marginal profits. |

| Of course--but from the figures I've seen, Sony would be losing a lot more per console than Microsoft is currently. |

| You guys are right in that a reason for delay of the PS3 is to cut losses. However, if the blu-ray standard changed after units shipped that would be an even bigger cash drain for Sony as existing machines would need modifications. |
