With today's release of the Windows Vista February CTP (Community Technology Preview), Microsoft has publicly passed a key milestone on the road to launching its new operating system. This release of Vista is "feature-complete", the company says, meaning that all of the fundamental capabilities that Vista will eventually offer are now baked in. Development efforts aren't slowing—the user experience will continue to evolve, bugs will get fixed, performance and compatibility will improve—but the basic shape of the operating system has been solidified, and from here on out we expect to see mostly fine-tuning rather than wholesale changes. | ||

As someone who needs to keep on top of this stuff for future roll-outs, what is the cheapest way for me to get ahold of Vista (legally) ?
TechNet Plus and the (comlplex, as usual) MSDN subscriptions are a tad expensive for my out-of-pocket. Is there anything else out there? We didn't renew our subscriptions this year so it will be out-of-pocket for me. Thanks :) TL |

| you can try going the Action Pack route - you won't get Vista until it's RTM, but it's a good price |

We let our Action Pack expire. They deleted the email address that was in our passport account because it wasn't used for 90 days, which broke our link to the corporate account, and....
It took us TWO months to get this working when we first signed up a few years ago. We decided it wasn't worth the nightmare to do again. TL |

| There should also be a public preview release made available prior to RTM. |
