Microsoft Releases Official & Final USB 2.0 Drivers for Windows XP | |

As promised in December, Microsoft has released the final version of its Windows XP USB 2.0 drivers; they're now available on Windows Update. According to Microsoft, USB 2.0 significantly increases the available bandwidth of the USB bus to 480Mbps, making USB 2.0 particularly suitable for high-performance (PC-attached) peripheral devices such as high-quality video-conferencing cameras, high-resolution scanners, and high-density storage devices. Update: You can download the final USB 2.0 drivers here. But you can also get them via the Windows Update Catalog | Find Harware Driver Updates | Other Hardware | and chose Microsoft Corporation and WinXP Pro | hit the search button and chose the Microsoft Usb Driver Version 5.1.2600.0 - (Posted Date: January 30, 2002) | ||

Does anyone know if there is a firewire to USB2 converter?
I would much rather have just a single USB2 card than both a firewire card + a usb2 card. Is this possible? |

Hasn't Microsoft heard? Microsoft is not going to support USB2.0 in Windows XP.

I believe you'll find it in the Windows Update Catalog, a subfunction of Windows Update.
Which reminds me, if one owns an Adaptec USB 2.0 card, for example, is it better to use the vendor's drivers or MS's? I'd lean toward Adaptec in this case, I guess, particularly since they were just updated a few days ago too. One advantage of having Adaptec USB is the slick USB Control Utility they have for use with their card (you can be using either MS or Adaptec drivers though). |
