Ahead has just released a new updated revision 5.5.7.2 of its well known burning software, Nero 5.5. This new release comes with various new features:

FWIW, the update is worth it. It took about an hour via DSL, but as noted, their servers are very busy. Having finally figured out how powerful (and easy, once you get use to it) Nero is, it is far better and more stable than Roxio.
If you do a lot of downloads of MP3's, consider Cool Edit 2000 for cleaning up and tweaking MP3's before burning to a CD or transferring to a MP3 player. |

OOPS! Sorry if I started a flame war. EZCD 4 is/was actually very stable. From my experience (and others) EZCD 5 under Win2000 and WinXP has been known to cause some system problems.
Nero does have over-burn capabilities. One of the advantages that I have found with Nero is that I don't have to turn off Windows Media Player 8 CD burning capabilities. Point that needs to be made - if EZCD works for you, great. |

And, of course, now begins the week-long adventure of finding a link that doesn't present a 404 error message.
I really like Nero. I'd NEVER, EVER put that crash-ware Roxio crap on my machine. But... Geez, Ahead. Fix this damned FTP server problem already! It's been going on for over a year! TL |

The problem with Adaptec/Roxio Easy CD Creator isn't with features. It's with the CODE! If you look through the official Microsoft Windows 2000 Newsgroups, you will probably see that this is the most complained-about software, time and time again. Every "Win2K Compatible" version they release turns out to be just as deadly to Win2K as the last. Their Mac version, Toast, is just as buggy. TL |
