Microsoft Corp. today announced the release of MSN® MapPoint™ through the MSN network of Internet services. Built on the MapPoint .NET Platform, MSN MapPoint expands Microsoft’s suite of popular mapping software and represents the beginning of MapPoint technology’s migration to Microsoft® .NET Web Services. Until now, most Internet users have only had access to maps and location information through AOL MapQuest, which also provides online maps to Yahoo! With the release of MSN MapPoint, Web users will now have a choice. MSN continues to be more useful every day for customers on the Web by delivering high-quality maps, driving directions and points of interest to meet users’ preferences. | ||

| We post everything and anything Microsoft. IF it were advertisement, I would have a check. I don't see any checks from MS around here. IT is news. It is their news. I have 10 other stories on this page about all the negative aspects of Microsoft, their lawsuits and all the bad things they do. This is letting the world know of their new product. I could rehash the press release stating the same things it says, but frankly I don't have time. If you don't want to read the press releases, don't read it! Go read the Register articles that I posted complaining about MS. Otherwise, enjoy reading these press releases. |

Please explain to me why I should care? If I don't perceive value, I won't pay. It's as simple as that. If I don't pay, chances are others won't pay and Microsoft isn't going to do it because they can't make money. Historically that has been the reality, whereas paranoia has never turned out to be true. |

| You might want to check out MapBlast... for some reason no one knows about it, but it's been better than MapQuest for a while. They require registration now (recently added), but they are still free. You can start addresses, trips, perform searches based on all sorts of categories, use and receive lat/long info, etc... |
